Essay topics:

The table shows forested land in millions of hectares in different parts of the world.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The table compares and contrasts data on the changes in the amount of land used for growing forests, measured in hectares in 6 parts of the world over a period of 15 years from 1990 to 2005.

Overall, land for forests decreased slightly in most of the countries. Only Asia and Europe managed to expand forests and Europe was always the country which had the largest forest land.

In three years, 1990, 2000, and 2005, Europe was the only country which increased its land for forests, 989, 998, and 1001 heactares respectively. Even though forest areas in Asia dropped slightly from 576 to 570 million hectares in 2000, forest growth recovered in 2005 with 584 million hectares of forests.

The case of Africa and South America are quite different. In fact, they experienced a dramatic and continuous decline in the forest size , a loss of 58 million and 64 million hectares of forests in Africa and South America respectively. North America and Oceania did not witness any big change in the amount of forested land, compared to the rest, just 2 and 3 million hectares decrease in Oceania and North America respectively.
