The table demonstrates the information about the forest zone by millions of hectares in six particular regions in between 1990 and 2005.
As we can see from the table that in the first year, Europe stood at the first rank with 989 million of hectares for the forested land. In contrast, the forest area in Oceania just occupied for 199 million hectares. Africa and North America had similar levels, 749 and 708 respectively.
After 15 years, there were significant changes. The numbers of forested zone in Africa had dramatically dropped for 15 years from 749 to 691 million hectares. Meanwhile, the designated area in Europe increased sharply from 989 in 1990 to 1001 million hectares in 2005 and still stood at the first rank at the end of the survey time. During the survey period, both South America and Africa had a significant decline in forest area, from 946 to 882 and from 749 to 691 respectively while Oceania preserved its forest area rather well, just slightly decreased by 2 (and gradually from 199 to 197). For the others, North Africa, Asia and Europe had stably retained and gradually expanded their forest.
Overall, most of the region had a downward trend in forest area. However, the forested zone in Europe grew up substantially. Furthermore, Europe was the region which had the largest forest area in 6 specific regions while Oceania was the one that had the smallest one.
