the table shows the proportions of pupils attending four secondary school types between 2000 and 2009
The table illustrates the percentages of students in terms of four different secondary school categories in the year 2000, 2005 and 2009.
Overall, while the numbers of students going to Specialist schools, Grammar schools and Voluntary-controlled schools reduced throughout the years, there were significant rises in the proportions of Public schools' students.
Community schools were attracting more students to enroll in, from 12% of the total number of students in 2000 to 32% in 2005, and reaching more than half of all pupils in 2009. By contrast, there were 52% of students taking part in Voluntary-controlled schools in 2000. However, this proportion dramatically dropped to 38% in 2005 before going down again to 20% in 2009.
Grammar schools also saw slighter decreases in the percentages of pupils attending in these years. To be precise, 24% of students went to Grammar schools in 2000, and only 12% of them attended classes in 2009. The proportions of pupils enrolled in Specialist schools remained relatively stable with minimal reduction, from 12% in 2000 to 10% in 2009.
