The graph shows the goods transported in UK by four major ways such as pipeline, rail, water and road from 1974 to 2002. Over the period 1974 to 2002 as a whole, there was a gradual increase in the pipeline and water transport. The road and rail transport was at rapid change over the years.
Road remained the most popular transport at the beginning and till the end of the period, and the number reached to 100 millions tonnes in 2001. Water transport was slightly less than that of rail transport in 1974, after that, there was a sharp increase in the number of tonnes in 1982 and remain immutable till 1998, and then increased up to 65 million tonnes. It is also stood at the second most popular transport.
Rail has a consistency number from 1974 to 1978, then there was a downfall till 1982 and slightly soar in 1986. This is the transport of goods with rapid change through out the years. Pipeline was the lowest in 1974 and remain the least all over the years with constant increase in the trends.
