A glance at the two figures reveals the rate of criminal convictions by ages and genders in the UK and the percentage of male and female prisoners in the British prison system.
The first picture gives information about the proportion of men and woman who are arrested in the UK. It indicates that male prisoners account for most of the total prisoners, 96 per cent. Meanwhile, female prisoners only account for 4%, 24 times smaller than the number of male prisoners.
The second picture shows us the proportion of convictions among men and women. At the age of 10, only 2% of men who are convicted and 0% of women. However, at the age of 20, there is a considerable growth of 14% in the number of convicted man while this figure of women is approximately 5%. Both two figures of man and women are followed by a sustained decline from the age of 20 to 60.
Overall, the number of male prisoners are always higher than female prisoners of all ages. It is also interesting to note that at the age of 10 and 60, there are no convictions among women.
