The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant
The line graph shows data from 1980 with forecasts up to 2030 about the amount of energy which was used by the residents of the US.
Overall, fossil fuels were the dominant energy sources from 1980 to 2008, and are expected to remain the leading source until 2030. In contrast, nuclear and renewable energy sources were the least utilized fuels, and they will continue this trend in the future.
Over the 28-year period, starting at 1980, petrol and oil increased in consumption from 35 quadrillion units to about 40 quadrillion units. Coal and natural gas also performed similarly, as both rose from an average of 18 quadrillion units to about 23 quadrillion units. During the same period, nuclear energy climbed gradually from nearly 3 quadrillion units, while solar/wind and hydropower fuels remained static at around 3 quadrillion units.
Over the duration of forecast, starting from 2008 to 2030, petrol and oil consumptions are predicted to grow significantly to roughly 50 quadrillion units. The consumptions of coal and natural gas, likewise, are estimated to increase up to about 32 quadrillion units and 25 quadrillion units, respectively. Finally, nuclear, solar, wind and hydropower energy will reportedly stay almost constant throughout the projected period.
