The graph below gives information about the percentage of the population in four Asian countries living in cities from 1970 to 2020, with predictions for 2030 and 2040.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The provided chart sheds light on the proportion of citizens recorded in several Asian countries namely The Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia during the researched period from 1970 to 2000, accompanied by forecasts for the years 2030 and 2040.
Overall, it is evident that the figures for dwellers in urban areas witnessed growth over the time during which the survey was conducted. Apparently, Malaysia showed the highest figures and it also played as the top tier in terms of the increasing speed.
With regard to the chart, despite starting as a 2nd runner-up at almost 30% in 1970, Malaysia's citizens accounted for the largest proportion of their population during the latter half of the period, from 2000 to 2040. With predictions of reaching its peak at more than 80% in 2040, the figures for Malaysia would certainly doubles that of the lowest country predicted, Thailand, at approximately 40%.
Accordingly, the percentage of citizens in The Philippines and Indonesia met at relatively 40% in the year 2010, while Indonesia began the survey with the highest figures in 1970 and the Philippines, on the contrary, was reported as the lowest at about 15%. Thailand also experienced a slight rise during the first 20 years, but then remained stable in the next 30 years before eventually took off again to its peak forecasted in 2040.
