Task I
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
Write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear………………………
New neighbours have recently moved into the house/flat next door to where you live. You have examinations soon, but your neighbours play music late at night which is affecting your studies and sleep.
Write a letter to your neighbours. In your letter:
• explain what the problem is
• why it is causing you difficulties
• what action you would like them to take
Dear Sir/Madam,
You have recently moved into your block of flats and thus we do not have a pleasure to meet each other personally. My name is Eugene Dubinchuk and I live the next door. I am writing to complain about the music which is loudly played after midnight in your apartments. Playing rock music at night violates social norms as well as the law. Although I might have accepted you inappropriate behavior because I used to be a young person as well but you keep playing the music each night for a week.
This has started to impact the quality of my sleep and studying as well. I decided to write you due to the possibility that you might not know that the house has a poor sound isolation and consequently sound spreads through walls easily. I hope that you will alter your behavior and stop listening to the music after 11:00 pm. It would be nice of you if you begin to listen to music at headphones I even my give you mine ones.
Finally, I have to warn you that if your conduct does not change and you continue disturbing me by the music, I will contact the landlord. I am sure that he will find a way to handle the issue.
Please give this matter your immediate attention.
Yours faithfully,
Mr. Dubinchuk
