Base on given materials, both article and lecturer discuss problems of mass-extinction. The author says that all phenomenon that causes this problem. There are several pieces of evidence suggest that mass- extinction occurred base on three reasons, the lecturer thinks none of the evidence are clear and reject then.
Initially the author says that, see level Is one of the reason that causes the mass-extinction which were happened at the end of Triassic period.
It mentions that when see level falls, as a result many habitants for ocean population destroyed. Thus, mass-extinction occur in this way. However, the lecturer explain that may be this is not a good reason, because the see level never happens quickly, It take time and it happened gradually. So this is not good reason for mass-extinction.
Secondly, the author mentioned that big climate cooling which volcanos activity is the reason. At the end of Triassic period, volcanoes produced large amount of so2 that made the temperature lower, yet again the speaker underscores that, even if so2 was produced, it could go away by the time, in addition to that so2 can be combine with water and produce rain which means so2 won’t stay long. That’s why she doesn’t agrees with that reason.
The final point of contention between the reading and listening passage is the concept called asteroid which blocked the sunshine long enough for most plant die. On the other hand, speaker explains that asteroid happened million years before mass-extinction. Thus, professor totally oppose with this idea to.
