The graph shows the amount of money spent on books in Germany, France, Italy and Austria between 1995 and 2005. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The line graph compares the expenditure on books in four different countries from 1995 to 2005.

Overall, it is clear that spending on books increased in each country during the decade, with the biggest rise taking place in Austria. However, Germany was the biggest consumer of books in each year.

In 1995, $80 million were spent on books in German. The equivalent figures for France and Italy were lower, at $55 million and $50 million each. In contrast, expenses on book were lowest in Austria with only $30 million, which remained under $40 million until 2001.

Between 2001 and 2005, the amount of money used for books by people in Austria saw a dramatic rise of nearly $30 million, which overtook Italy in 2003 as the third biggest book consumer. By 2005, expenditure on books continued to be the highest in Germany, with figures reaching under $100 million. The spending figures for France and Austria were similar at around $67 each, while spending on books in Itay saw a small rise to just over $60 million.
