The bar chart shows the number of students who chose certain university subjects in 2005. Subjects include Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Languages, Humanities, The Arts, Literature, and Law.
Overall, the two subjects Science and Mathematics were chosen the most by male students (more than 15 thousands students), but female students chose these two subjects quite low (10 thousand students and 5 thousands students). Meanwhile, Social Sciences and Languages are chosen a lot by female students (nearly 25 thousands students and nearly 20 thousands students), but less than 2 thousands male students choose Languages. Quite surprisingly, Social Sciences and Literature are registered quite high by male students (approximately 20 thousand students) and about 12 thousand female students choose Literature . Humanities is a subject with equal enrollment of male and female students, about 12 thousands students. The Arts is more popular with female students than male students, with nearly 10 thousands female students and about 3,000 male students. In contrast, Law is preferred by male students, twice the number of female students, 10 thousands male students and 5 thousands female students.
In summary, there is a gender disparity between subjects as well as professions, but it is also quite surprising that Humanities has an equal ratio between male and female students.
