Why an international student should get an English test with a qualified score before studying abroad?
It is argued that international students should pass on an English achievement examination with a qualified score as the main requirement to enable them to apply for a university in an English-speaking nation. In my opinion, I strongly agree with the statement because of a couple of benefits they bring about including the more convenience to follow the English curriculum, and the quicker adaptation to a new nation.
From a personal perspective, the first advantage is to give students the ability to keep track of the English curriculum. All the lectures are given in English if the students do not comprehend English, most of them will not understand the lecture as well. Furthermore, attending classes is important for the students since it is a time that the lecturer and students discuss and exchange ideas. Thus, abilities to listening and speaking are important for attending the classroom. Besides, sometimes the students could have questions as well as issues registering for the class, thus need to speak with professors or officers.
On a societal level, the other benefit is to allow the student to communicate easier daily. The students need to communicate not only with their friends but also with other people. As a result, communication is the main way students make friends or those who need to get along with other people. In addition, having an English certificate provides job-related skills and knowledge that can create a quality, employable first-entry workforce that can adapt well to the work environment in an international environment.
Some people say that a student studying abroad in an English speaking country does not need to obtain a passing score on an English achievement test because it is not practical. However, international students who can not comprehend English might find it hard to settle down, especially if they are introverts, which deeply affects not only the school life but also the quality of face-to-face relationships with foreigners.
In conclusion, there are several advantages to having an English certificate before any international students study abroad including the more convenience for an international student following the English curriculum, and the quicker adaptation to a new nation.
