News form an integral part of any nation and it's residents. Therefore, an integral part of journalism is to present the news stories in a detailed and lucid way. Thereby, news presenters use pictures and other graphics while devising any news content. In my opinion, using graphic content is a healthy practice which is employed by print and TV media.
To embark upon, as the saying goes that "a picture can say a thousand words" and is an effective tool in presenting facts in a short span of time. Since the time slot and paper space is limited when it comes to TV and print media respectively, therefore the news people try to cover as much as they can by using images. Moreover, another advantage of pictures is that the reader can easily understand the content of the news.
On the contrary, there are some drawbacks of using pictures as well. Firstly, a key aspect of journalism is that the reader should draw a conclusion and give a perspective to every news item. This can only be managed if the news content is presented with words trying to do the same and help the reader altogether whereas pictures normally fail to do so. Secondly, very young people who are novice when it comes to comprehending the language can form an unintended meaning of the news by merely looking at the pictures. As a result, this can affect their mental state in a negative way.
To recapitulate, utmost rationale should be taken by news agencies while forming the news because excessive use of images will hamper the goals of relevancy and correctness of any news story.
