You often visit a library in your city or town. Write a letter to the head of the library to mention few
suggestions regarding the changes you would like to see. You must write:

• How frequently do you visit
• What are the problems you noticed
• What ways do you suggest to improve the same

Dear Sir,

Greetings for the day, I am writing this letter to express my opinion on current library operations and
offer some suggestions in order to improve the library services. These changes will not only help library
staff to work more efficiently but will also encourage more members from town to use library services.

At the onset, I have been a regular member of this library since the time it was opened for the public in
2007. Back then, it used to be a small facility with a large community table and a limited seating capacity
of 50 people. I used to visit the library every Friday with my father who had his office in the adjacent
building. After the library building was renovated in 2015 and more seats were added, I became a
regular visitor and started visiting every Thursday and Friday evening. Since last year, I changed my
schedule and now I come to the library every Monday and Friday around 8 AM and spend about 30
minutes reading international newspapers and interacting with library staff.

Further, let me share some experiences from my latest visit. Even though a huge number of books are
available, the library is still using a manual register to keep the record of available books. This causes a
lot of delays as well as discrepancies while issuing books to the members. In fact, it has become almost
impossible to find a book since searching through the register is a very tedious and time-consuming
process. Besides that, the computers available in the reading room are very outdated and slow. Even if
an eBook is available, reading them using these slow machines is very uncomfortable. Because of the
issue of slowness, many of these computers are not even being used by anyone.

Lastly, I would like to suggest a few options that can help improve the current operations of the library.
Library management software can be used in order to solve the issues of manual recordkeeping and
delays caused by that. Although the software solutions might cost a little money, they would
significantly save the time and efforts of both library staff and members. Also, slow computers can be
replaced by tablets which are effective for reading. Replacing computers with tables will not only resolve
the problem of slowness but will also save money as the computers consume more electricity and
require more maintenance.

I hope you will consider my suggestions and investigate the stated issues to resolve them at your
earliest.

Yours faithfully, 11/29/2021

Matt Wilson
