The lecture and the text offers two opposing views on the allegation stated on the movie Gone with the Wind by the viewers and critics. Though the text explains how the movie is important but also provide signs of racism, the professor counters the points and says that the allegation are overstated. She explains what she feels about the movie and how the text could be wrong.
Initially, the professor talks about the point stated by the text how the Southern women made a mistake by going to war. However, the professor thinks that it was a right thing to do and this decision was not portrayed rash. She includes that the women did not face any difficulties after the war, instead the opportunities for women to work increased.
Secondly, the lecturer explains how not giving the name initially, Prissy, does not affect the point that the character was fearless. Moreover, the actor was the first African- American to win the best actor's award. Furthermore, the text states that the director asked her to perform as a dim-wit, however, the professor explains that she did more than that. She showed the rebellious side of her through her performance. Moreover, Malcom X's opinion was opposed by the lecturer and she explained that he might have been deceived by the high pitched voice of the actor.
Lastly, the professor explains how the viewers should appreciate the movie and the acting instead of being embarrassed as this has allowed an opportunity for the African-American women to live a better life and to live freely.
