The author in the passage is concerned about the possible extinction of Torreya species which is why she/ he has provided three possible solutions to mitigate the issue. Surprisingly, the speaker in the lecture seems to be at odds with her/ his strategy. She goes on to dismiss not only the first solution which was restablishing plant in same area, but she also condemns the other two options of assisteed migration as well as preservation in research centres.
As the writer attempts to establish the point of view that the humid microcliamte of North America supports the growth of these species, they should be planted again at same regions, the orator points out that this is no longer valid. She goes on to elaborate that this microcliamte is gettign affected by the surrounding less humid cliamte in that region possibly due to global warming or the fact that the region is getting drier. This is why the first solution of the writer will no longer be valid.
Moving further, the lecturer goes on to contend the second option of assisted migration of the plants by pointing it out as a possible threat. When the author suggested to move the plant into colder Northern region since the microclimate is more favourable there, the speaker brings light into the context by giving the example of similar previous attempts and its failure of planting Black Locust Tree. Not only did it grow expansively but it also imposed threat to other endangeres plants.
Now, these cotnenetions were not enough to dismiss the essayist already, the speaker pulls one final string as the ultimate to condemn the last point on preservation of species in the research centre. According to the orator, this solution is nto practical because the large population of the Torreya species won'tbe able to withstand the diseases wehn sotred in research labs as they are genetically diverse and the centres can't accomodate them all. In this way,the final solution is dismissed as well.
So, it is in this manner, that the possible solutions of the essayist are weakened through the explanations on each proposed options as changing microcliamte, threat of endangering other species and risk of low disease resistance, respectively.
