The excerpt discusses about the ways to save Torreya trees from being extinct. Experts belive that there are three possible ways to address this dicline. However, the lecturer have the oppositive views on the ways discribed by the experts.
Firstly, the experts are willing to reestablish Torreya trees in the same location. Northen part of Florida have the suitable microclimate for Torreya to grow and in earlier times Torreya flourished in the same region. However, the lecturer says that the situation of microclimates have changed over time because of the global worming. The region of florida has became dry and hence, the Torreya will certainly not groww in that same region.
Secondly, excerpts talk about migrating Torreya to the whole new location with the help of technique know as assisted migration. Experts believe that humans will be helping Torreya return to an environment. Lecturer refutes this by giving an earlier example in which humans have helped Black Locust to return. In that time the Black Locust proliferated so quickly that not only it returened but it also killed so many plants in the nature. Moreover, the plants which were killed by locusts were itself in the catagory of extinction.
Lastly, the experts suggests to keep the remaining of Torreya to the research lab, by this way reserchers will be able to monitor and also conduct research on them. To conflict this, the lecturer points out that research labs contain so many diseas and Torreya will not be able to protect itself from that. In order to protect itself, Torreya needs to be either in large number or in diversity. Because of this Torreya will not survive in research labs as wll.
