About eco-certified products and why American companies are not choosing them.
The reading and the lecture are about eco-certified products that are widely adopted by many countries around the world and mentioning plausible views why American consumers don't show much interest in eco-certified products, those can be explored below.
First of all, the reading posits that Americans are exposed to many advertisements so they don't value or pay attention to the eco-certification label. The lecturer explains this by many American wood companies seek the eco-certification and they don't need to advertise the same thing again. he also adds that they can distinguish between their own products and the independent consumer agencies and Americans have lot of confidence in independent consumer agencies and they are favorable to choose them.
Secondly, the author mentions that in order to get eco-certification they have to pay a lot of money to the certification agency and the cost carries on to the customer's purchase.
The man in the conversation says that people care about money and they want to buy the product which is reliable and cheaper than other items. If people had to choose between products which differ in price by five percent then they would choose other options to filter their choices. This is the reason the American wood companies would like to choose the products of lower value.
Finally, the reading tells us that American businesses are not much involved in marketing products abroad because they have a large customer base in the United States. The professor explains his point that Americans are not concerned about foreign consumers instead they are for foreign competition. He also mentions that in the course of time American companies will adopt eco-certification in order to avoid their companies slow down their business then foreign companies would enter the U.S trading and would sell their products which are not available for domestic manufacturing.
