Altruism
The article and lecture both are about a concept called Altruism.While the passage shows that the altruism is a kind act done by both humans and some other mammals , the lecturer posess different opinion about it.
Firstly, the article mention about the selfless act done by humans such as sharing food to strangers or donating body organs to one needed. This specific argument is challenged by the lecture stating that the doners gets appreciation from society and from the reciever. Donating organs would be such a non materialistic act.
Secondly, the article states about the behaviour of a mammal known as "Meerkat". It mention that an individual meerkat would sacrifice food or even his life to assist the other members of group.The lecture, however rebutes this by mentioning a fact from recent study about meerats that the one watch guard meerat eats before stand guard duty.
Finally, the author posists that if the sentinel meerkat sees a predator, it would alarm the group by giving an alarm cry which will alert message to other members of meerkat to run and seek for shelter. In contract, the lecture points out that the sentinel meerkat when detact a predator ,it would be the first one to run and the alarm cry would be make other meerkats gather to each other, which would be beneficial for the predator to catch prey.
