Archaeologists have recently found a fossil of a 150-million-year-old mammalknown as Repenornamus robustus (R. robustus). Interestingly, the mammal'sstomach contained the remains of a psittacosaur dinosaur. Some researchers havetherefore suggested that R.

The passage reading suggests that R. Robustus was a scavenger and not an active hunter of Psittacosaur Dinosaur. However, speaker in the lecture refutes this claim and gives the following reasons to implicate that R. Robustus was indeed an active hunter.

First, according to the passage, R. Robustus was small and may not have been able to actively hunt Psittacosaur Dinosaur which was much bigger than itself. However, the speaker in the lecture says that R. Robustus may have hunted small babies or not yet fully grown Psittaco saurs. So the evidence of small size of R. Robustus in itself does not prove that it was not an active hunter.

Second. the passage states that the legs of R. Robustus were short and were positioned out to the side rather than directly underneath it and so was more suited for scavenging than hunting. On the other hand, according to the lecture there is an animal in modern time that has similar legs but is an active hunter and so it is quite possible that R. Robustus was an active hunter too of Psittacosaurs.

Third, the passage mentioned that R. Robustus may have swallowed an egg with the small psittacosaur inside as there were no teeth marks on the bones of the animal that was eaten. To counter this statement, the speaker suggests that the R. Robustus indeed used to swallow the meat instead of chewing it as its back teeth showed no signs of chewing.

So, according to the lecture, R. Robustus may have very well been an active hunter as it shows all the signs of it. The points made in the passage about the R. Robustus being a scavenger are refuted by the speaker and has instead supported the idea that R. Robustus was an active hunter.
