The article states that sending people to an asteroid would actually be the best colonization option for a number of reasons. However the professor explains that colonization is not practical idea and he refuses each of the article's reason.
Firstly, the article claims that asteroids have low gravity so when the spacecraft land on asteroid, the craft would not be pulled forcefully toward the asteroid's surface. However, the professor refuses this point by saying that low gravity produces many risks to astronauts' health. He states that exposing to low gravity few months cause losing of muscle mass and bone density loss. So, exposing to long term of low gravity will cause health problems.
Secondly, the article claims that asteroid colony will be extremely profitable because some asteroids are rich in valuable elements that are relatively rare on Earth. However, the professor contends that extracting valuable minerals from asteroids is not the whole picture as there is additional factors. First, the cost to support the colony is high. Second, no guarantee to capture precious minerals and that will reduce the additional market prices.
Thirdly, The article avers that asteroids are a good option for colonization because they are close to Earth and easy to reach. However, the professor contends that even though there are some asteroids are easy to reach, some are not easy to return. Also, the distance between the Earth and asteroids are great and it is a challenge for the spacecraft to return back. So, reaching to asteroids and guarantee returning back are challenge.
