Both the article and the lecture are about the settlements of Chaco Canyon. The article suggests that this settlements might have different functions. The lecturer casts doubts on the each theory mentioned in the article.
First of all, according to the reading this structures were used for residential purposes as they seem to be quite similar to the settlements found in New Mexico. The lecturer,on the other hand claims that the primary function of this structures could not be residential as inside of them there are just a few fireplaces.
Secondly, the reading states that they might be used as storage of food.As they were extremely big they were suitable for storing maize.The lecturer does not approve this theory either as the recent excavations have not found maizers or maize containers on the floor.
Finally , the third theory in the article says that this structures might be used for ceremonial purposes as inside of them a plenty of broken pots were found.The lecturer disagrees with that as they contain a lot of stuff that does not seem to be for ceremonies. She is certain that building materials found inside claim that they were definitely not for ceremonies.
