Copper scrolls
The article and the lecture are both about Copper Scrolls, which is one of the world greatest mysteries. The author of the reading believe in the authenticity of these scrolls and their stories. The lecturer refutes the statements made by the author. He is of the opinion that hidden treasures written in the Copper Scrolls is real.
First, the author suggests that the translation of the scroll is still on debate. It is also claimed that some faults in the translations have been detected. This argument is challenged by the lecturer. He says that the current translation is accurate even though the process of translation is a little tricky due to the poor condition where the scrolls were found and the old age of the scrolls. According to the professor, the language of the scrolls is ancient Hebrew but combined with Egypt’s numeric system. Furthermore, the translation has been deliberately mistaken and the real one is disclosed to certain people only
Second, the writer contends that the amount of gold and silver mentioned is too big to be real. The article notes that such a large quantity does not correspond with the fact known about the owner of the treasure, who are said to be ascetic and not favor of materialism. The lecture, however, rebuts this point by asserting that the number system used in the scrolls were Egyptian, not Hebrew. As a result, the number after recalculation is lessened and now more acceptable.
Finally, it is stated in the passage that the treasures currently lay underground of Israel. The author establishes that people have even located some sites but discovered nothing. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that the area implied in the scrolls actually matches a city in today’s Egypt. Some places have been pinpointed correctly and an amount of gold and silver have been long excavated by scholars and hunters, which now belongs to museums and individuals’ collections
