declining of yellow cedars

Based on the given materials, the article as well as the lecture discuss yellow cedars, which are well-known species of trees in North America and have been on the decline for several decades. The author states that there are several viable theories of this decreasing in population. That being said, the lecturer provides several ideas to repudiate this claim.
Initially, the author says that insect parasites might be a cause for this decline, especially the species called cedar bark beetle as their larvae eat the wood and damage the tree. However, the lecturer explains that this cannot be true owing to the fact that the barks and leaves of such trees are full of poisonous chemical which could be deadly to insects. Also, in the example of existing insects in dead trees, such trees had been damaged before, and the insects can not be the cause for the decline.
Second, the writer proclaims that aggressive demanding of brown bears for yellow cedar's bark with lots of sugar content which are a essential of the bear's diet, might be another reason for damaging the tree follows the decline. Yet again, the speaker underscores that decreasing in population of the trees had been seen in both mainland and island area, with the fact that there are no bears on the island. So, hurts which occurred by brown bears are not the fundamental reason for the demise.
The final point of contention between the reading and listening passages is global warming. The author thinks that changing in climate lings the growing process of yellow cedar trees by affecting the sensitive part of them, roots.
