The reading and the lecture are both about possibility of apperanse of bees before 200 million years ago. More specifically, in regard to the passage, the writer presents three theories about evidence for a structure found in a tree in Arizona made not by bees in ancinet times. The lecturer disputes the claims made in the article. His position is that it is possible that these nests where construct by bees.
First and foremost, the author of the reading states there were no ancient remains for bees before 200 million years ago. The article mentions that the first preserved fossil for a bee is before 100 million years ago only. This argument is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that this argument is not persuasive because the reason of not found any remains is the type of trees which preserve the bees inside it. Additinally, he points out that the tree which can save the bee for long time must has a liquid called reisa and may not be found in the past.
Secondly, the author suggests lack of flowering plants in that period is a good explanation because bees feed on this type of food. In the article it is said that bees and flowers have biological relationship from first appear of flowers before 125 million years ago. Again, the speaker specifically addresses this point when he states bees are found before flowers and they consume and feed on non-flowering plants like firns. He goes on to say that after evolve flowering palnts bees adaptes these plants.
Finally, the author brings his argument to a close by suggesting that the structure which found in Arizona is different from the new type of bees because it lacks some details like it it does not have spiral cap, so it may made by other types of insects. Not surprisingly, the professor takes issue with this claim by contending that there is a chemical evidence confirm that bees protect their nest from water by chemical material. He notes that chemical analysis asserted that the same type of materials found in the last and the new rooms of bees.
