dinosaurs
Both the reading and the listening part are arguing either the Sinosauropteryx dinosaur had feathers. The passage supports the idea that this dinosaur did not have feathers. However, the lecture opposes the passage's idea. It says that, the evidences that this dinosaur had feathers are very strong. It says that the critics ideas are not convinsioning.
To begin with, the author of the passage states that, the fine lines do not indicate that they were functional structures of a dinosaur while alive. It says that they might have been formed after the animal was dead. This particular claim is challenged by the professor. She says that the fine lines are very unlikely do be formed due to a decomposition skeleton. She states we do not see this from other animals that were dead. So, she says that those lines were the dinosaur's feathers.
Secondly, the passage states that a lot of dinosaurs had frills, and those fine lines could be those, not the feathers. Yet the lecture, holds a different opinion. It says that they can not be frills because they do contain beta-carotene, that makes them believe they were feathers.
Finally, the reading part says that, the lines were located in their backbone and the tails, so they could not use them to flight. On the other hand, the professor in the listening part gave the example of peacock. She says that, even though they have the feathers in their backbone, and they are very long, they use them to fly. She said that the dinosaur's fosil fond are colorful, and they make us think that they were their feathers.
