Racial profiling is the use of race or ethnicity as grounds for suspecting someone of having committed an offence. While
there are many definitions to racial profiling, most are similar in that they identify that some type of police action is being that relies on the national origin, race, or ethnicity of a person, rather than the actual behavior of the person in some manner of criminal activity.
Many argue that this is a biased form of policing since police officers tend to stop, question, arrest, or search someone
based on his or her ethnicity or race. They also cry against the use of race or ethnicity as a factor when reacting with
suspicion and action against an individual.
The racial profiling debate, however, seems to center on whether or not the practice is really all that bad. Some in the
realm of law enforcement argue that the practice is necessary and effective. They believe that due to demographic and
socio-economic factors and their relation to crime, those in a large minority population have a higher risk of participating
in criminal activities. They argue that ignoring the facts due to moral integrity is professionally and morally wrong. If law
enforcement officers are to identify and take action against violators, any information to assist them in being more
effective is crucial. Critics of racial profiling argue that individual rights are violated when this practice is utilized. Civil
liberties organizations intimate that this type of profiling is in fact a form of discrimination and undermines basic human
rights and freedoms. Researchers are interested in collecting data and analyzing trends to see how this information
corresponds to perceptions of racial profiling and the effects it has on ethnic groups.
In comparison to the lecture, the reading passage focuses on the Racial profiling issue as

someone is punished based on the race, colour, and ethnicity.
The firstly, the professor says that the in the present day has changed in comparison to what happened 40 years
ago and also the prisoner's numbers in the american jail is burgeoned. In addition to that, the majority of
the prisoners are African American, due to their black colour, race, and poor wealth. However, the reading text says that, one is punished based on his misdeed in the Racial profiling.
Secondly, The reading passage present that this practice of the Racial profiling is necessary and effective . Nevertheless, the professor says that it is not at all beneficial to us. Refuting the points of reading passage, the professor provides an example of the number of prisoner has changed from 300000 on 1972 to 2.3 million today. Whats more, he added that this number also will increase further and united state will be the highest number of prisoner in the jail very soon.
