ethanol and gasoline

Essay topics:

ethanol and gasoline

Both the passage and the lecture discuss the matter of substitute gasoline with ethanol for fuel. The passage states that this substitution is not proper and explain three reason for this claim. In the opposite the professor make doubt on this claim by stating that such a replacement is conceivable and denies each reason explaining in passage.
First, the reading talk about the effect of ethanol on global warming. In fact, it states that the ethanol release carbon dioxide which is one of the greenhouse gases. The professor refutes this by stating that ethanol is made by plants which help reducing of carbon dioxide in our environment. So, in his opinion, by considering this it is not true to said ethanol fuel will increase global warming.
Second, according to reading usage of ethanol fuel cause declining in the amount of plants on which animals are fed. The professor disagrees with this claim again. He states that the ethanol is made from those parts of plants which are not the foods of animals. So, ethanol can affect the animals feeding at all.
Third, reading says that the real price of ethanol, without considering the tax subsidies paid by government, is very higher than gasoline and has not any chance to compete with. In contrast, the professor states that by increasing the costumers of ethanol, the ethanol manufacturer can drop the price of ethanol in the way that it can compete with gasoline in terms of price.
