European coin
According to the reading, the discovered silver coin in the state of Main is a fake object and does not belonged to European travelers called the Norse; however, the lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the reading.
First, the reading states that the coin has been found far away from the Norse site; therefore, it cannot be attributed to them. On the contrary, the lecturer states that native North Americans used to travel a lot, so it is possible that they brought the coin and other objects (which has been found at far locations) to far regions.
Secondly, the reading asserts that no other coins have been discovered in Norse site. In contrast, the lecturer notes that the Norse did not choose the site as their permanent residence. In fact, they returned to Europe, so they must had packed their stuff including all their silver coins when they started their journey back to Europe.
Finally, the reading contends that unlike Europeans, native North Americans did not recognize the coins as money. The lecturer refutes this argument by explaining that although native North Americans were not familiar with the concept of money, they might trade things in exchange for objects which are aesthetically appealing like these silver coins.
