Famous writer Chevalier de seingault

Essay topics:

Famous writer Chevalier de seingault

The Chevalier memoir was filled with many adventures and had historical value in the eighteenth century. However, the controversies in the memoir of the Chevalier were raised by some critics and those can be explored with the reliability in the following essay.

First of all, Chevalier while living in Switzerland, he was wealthy and spent a great amount of money on parties and gambling. Here critics have a doubt that if the Chevalier is wealthy, why he borrowed a huge amount of money from the swiss merchant. However, the women in the lecture say that in order to spend a large amount of money he doesn't have cash so he had to sell a property that takes time to get sold. so, this is why Chevalier borrowed money from the swiss merchant.

Secondly, the critics also mentioned about the conversations between the Chevalier and the famous writer Voltaire. They think that Chevalier's memoir didn't capture the exact conversations between Chevalier and Voltaire, because it was written many years after the conversations occured. The woman in the lecture says that after each conversation the chevalier made notes about their conversations and he regularly consulted those notes and journals while writing the memoir.

Finally, the critics even have a doubt about the chevalier esacape from the prison of venice. Since, the Chevalier escaped from the venetian prison using a piece of metal to make a hole in the ceiling and climbed through the roof and escaped. Many of them think that though his reading is enjoyable, they think that chevalier's jailers were bribed to free him and also they mention that he had a great political influence from venice to get him out. However, the woman from the lecture states that more than the chevalier, many people in the prison had great influence from political side. Still they couldnot get out of the prison. Later, while talking to the jailers they said that the ceiling of the room was old and they had to repair. So, he could have got that metal from there.

In conclusion, the chevalier's memoir was much reliable and also it depicts the true events which took place in Chevaliers life.
