Finding contrast

Essay topics:

Finding contrast

In the lecture, speaker discussed altruism in totally a different way than that has been explained in the reading passage. The reading passage describes altruism as a act of devoid of selfishness. But the speaker urges that there is something non-materialistic things lies in this activity. And these acts infer to meet one's self interest that can be valuable to someone.

The lecturer told that Meer Kat eat food before it makes a stand guard for his group. Thus, the sentinel meerkat is not acting with empty stomach at all. On the other hand, the passage denies this fact. It indicates that the sentinel meerkat is not bothered about his own eating. It prefers to think about other safety first.
The passage states that meerkat creates an alarm sound when any predator comes to its notice to alert the other group member. But the speaker argues that it does this act to make its escape first by divert the predators' notice to the other members.
Also, in human altruism case- the speaker makes a contrast by telling that when a human donates a body organ even to a strange person, he gets appreciation from society. Furthermore, he creates a positive self-image that is also valuable and one can't deny the fact that as no materialistic rewards are related here, it is fully selfishness act.
