The reading passage proposes genetic modification as a way to genetic changing in an organism to improve its characteristics, especially in trees. It brings up three cogent reasons to back up this hypothesis. But the professor in the lecture casts doubt to information and reasons mentioned in the passage and give some explanations to contradicts them.

First, the passage states that trees that have been modified genetically are harder than a wild tree. on the other hand, the professor shares the idea that it is questionable. He brings up the points that the genetically modified trees are much more uniform but the non-modified ones are diverse in kind. The resistance is limited to just one species not all of them. So a change in the climate conditions, for example, can destroy all of them.

Second, the author asserts that it is supposed genetically modified trees have economic benefits. Conversely, the lecturer says that this idea not to be taken seriously because the farmer Do not have additional benefits for the trees because they have not any seeds to collect.

Finally, the author holds the idea that these kinds of trees can have benefits for wild trees by eliminating overexploitation. on the contrary, the professor refutes this point because he explains genetically modified trees can damage the natural trees by crowding out them and it can be a competition between the wild trees and genetically modified ones for their requirements.
