Global Issues

The reading and the lecture are both about the benefits of organic food. According to the reading passage, there are several benefits in consumption of organic food, which eventually may cause worthwhile impact on human health. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made by the article. By using the following evidence, she suggests that organic farming is less beneficial than it seems from the first look.
First of all, many organic farmers do use the chemicals, which are known as the unofficial pesticides. The evidence buttresses the possible negative impact as to when the organic food is consumed by people. In addition, the pesticides held in the organic food are harmful to the health and may lead to the development of Parkinson disease.
Furthermore, the development of organic farming may lead to more serious environment problems, than using pesticides. Provided organic farms need much more land to grow the same amount of crop, than large corporations, and thus the large amount of forests should to be cut. However the author of the reading contends that the lack of usage of chemicals will lead to reduced amount of pollutants. Because the pesticides become waste in the end, polluting the land and water.
Additionally, the lecturer outs forth the idea that organic food benefits small farms as large corporations do not grow such crops. This is misleading as large corporations do actually grow organic food, but sell the under the sister companies labels. This counters the point made in the article, according to which organic food benefits the small farms.
All in all, the evidence referred to by the lecturer challenges the idea that the organic farming is as beneficial, as the author states.
