GMO products
The reading and the lecture are both about GM products, which is a concern nowadays. The author of the reading has a strong belief in GM food, thus will defend his theory
The lecturer challenges that statement by the author. She is of the opinion that GM food poses a danger to our habitat.
First of all, the author suggests that modifications will improve the quality and the number of products, moreover we are going to have more resistant plants and use fewer pesticides. It is mentioned that the introduction of the vaccine concept may improve the environment all over the world. This argument is challenged by the lecturer. He says that the asexual reproduction and the cross-pollination will be affected as a side effect of this intervention. Furthermore, he argues that new allergens are being created and targeted individuals or the other ones that are not aware of any of them may have consequences. It is demonstrated with the peanut allergy and due to cross-combination everything that might contain peanuts ingredient may pose them to allergy risks.
Secondly, the writer contends that Gm is the only way to maintain the balance between the overgrowing population and their needs about food. Since we have the same territory and this expansion, we need to modify our products to produce more in a timely manner The lecturer on the other hand, posts that the costs of the research and experiments for this GM products will reflect in their price. Although we might have better seeds, their cost will be so high and they will not be able to afford. Moreover, this will increase the gap between the classes and will mostly affect the middle class
