In these set of material, The reading states that , a huge marine mammal known as Steller's sea cow once lived in the water around bering Island off the coast of Siberia. In 1768 the animal became extinct, and it provides three supporting reasons. Conversely the professor says that we don't know the exact causes of such distinction and he refures each reason in the reading.

First of all, the reading states that, see cows may have been overhunted by groups of native Siberian people. However the professor says that, the see cows weren't very large populations at this time, and the people there didn't bring them to the extinction.

Second, the reading claims that, the see cow population may have become extinct because of ecosystem disturbances that cause decline in their main source of food, like kelp plant. But the professor says that, if sever ecosystem was happened before 1766 this had lead to decline in marine animals like the whales populations also but the studies show no declination in their population. So there is no proplem in the ecosystem.

Last , the reading states that, the Europian fur traders who came to the island after 1741 is the main cause of extinction of the sea cows. But the professor says that, it might seen after the arrival of Europian traders , but by time the sea cows populations were small before 1700. Something long before The arrival of Europian traders as aresult not the arrival of Europian traders was the cause of the sea cows extinction.
