lake and salt

Essay topics:

lake and salt

According to the reading, the lecture states that The Salton Sea is a salty lake. Its level of salinity is ‎increasing gradually which leads to become a dead zone in which no fish, and bird population can live. ‎The professor states that the announcement's idea is unrealistic, and it is unpractical. He refutes each ‎of the author's solutions.‎
First, the reading states that one of the ways to decrease the amount of salt in the lake is using of ‎some desalination equipment into which water would be pumped, and heated. The professor ‎opposes this idea, and states that this solution can cause serious problems because after evaporating ‎the water, solid material is remained at the bottom of the equipment. So if the wind blows, and ‎spreads these harmful chemicals it may cause harmful effects on people, and leads to some serious ‎health problems.‎
Second, the reading says that another way is to bring ocean's water by canals, and pipelines to the like, ‎so by doing this job, the concentration of salt in the water will decrease. However, the professor ‎refutes this idea by saying that it is not a practical work because building pipes, and canals may cost a ‎lot, and local governments cannot afford it.‎
Moreover, the reading explains that by building walls just for dividing the lake in to different parts may ‎be another reasonable idea, and do some controlling actions in order to control lake's salinity. ‎Nevertheless, the professor argues that idea, and mentions that although this solution is better than ‎the other ones, it is a short-term solution. Before attempting to build this walls they should do some ‎geological studying in order to provide some facts about the happening of earthquake since ‎earthquake can deteriorate the wall, and produce a massive disaster. For places like Japan in which ‎earthquake happens regularly, it will not be a good solution.‎
