Lambeosaurus dinosaur
The reading and the lecture both talk about the function of Lambeosaurus’ crest. The reading passage says that there are several possible theories of crest’s utilization. The lecturer, however, argues that none of theories mentioned in the reading are not proved thoroughly.
To begin with, the article contends that male Lambeosaurus may use their crests to attract female since its feature experienced changes while growing. On the contrary, the lecturer disagrees with this argument. She claims that this theory is suspicious because most reptiles attract other sex by behavior and sound. For example, crocodiles which are similar to dinosaurs are creating noise by lifting head to communicate with opposite sex.
Secondly, the author, in the reading, says that crests were used when they had fights, like Triceratops did. By contrast, the lecturer casts doubt on this assertion. She insists that the analysis, which was conducted by fossils, showed that Lambeosaurus’ crest was grown backward, so it seems hardly to use it for combat. She also points out that it is absurd to compare this crest with triceratops’ which was dense and sturdy because Lambeosaurus’ was hollow. So, the crest must be too weak to be used for attack.
The final point made in the reading is that Lambeosaurus used this crest as water storage since it was connected to lung, and helped them forage plants under the water. However, the lecturer goes against this point by stating that the crest was too small to provide enough air to this massive creature. She also adds that it must be easier for Lambeosaurus to take a deep breath when they eat aquatic plants, instead of getting help of the small crest.
