A little over 2200 years ago, the Roman navy attacked the Greek port city of Syracuse. According to some ancient historians, the Greeks defended themselves with an ingenious weapon called a “burning mirror”: a polished copper surface curved to focus t

The author contradicts those who believe that an advanced weapon has existed called a burning mirror approximately 2200 years ago, as several reasons he's holding the opinion is a follow.
First of all, the Greeks were not fully advanced enough to build such the developed device at the time. The device consists of a variety of complicated requirements to apply to the work causing Roman's ship to catch fire in some distances, he surmised that it is unreal to believe, in the ancient period, Greeks invented that breakthrough weapon further than the way they did at the time.
From his experiment, it proved that it possibly works in certain ways; Greeks' inventive mirror takes about 10 minutes to make them on fire in 10 meters, on the condition that the enemy's ship is completely static. However, in fact, Romans' ship was positively moving forward to attack the Greeks' territories. As its inefficiency, it is not realistic to believe the weapon existence.
Last reason for the authors' belief is concretely based on the usage of flaming arrows. If they used flaming arrows as the main weapon for the sort of occasion, in regarding the distance and time, the arrow was effectively casing the Romans' ship on fire for sure, rather than by the burning mirror.
In the nutshell, from the above reasons, the author insists that there is no use having the burning mirror, that is to say, the ancient Greeks has not had such the weapon.
