Moai construction

Essay topics:

Moai construction

Author of the passage and professor are concerned about the consequences of the Moai construction in Island. While passage states 3 reasons for the same, professor argues the validity of these reasons.

Firstly, passage states that people of island used aforementioned tracks for construction of the Moai. It also states that trees were cut for the same and eventually leads to deforestation in Island. But professor argues the validity by stating that aforementioned tracks were not used for the construction rather ropes were used to build it. In addition to his argument, professor states that modern research has performed a demo for the same using a real Moai construction.

Secondly, professor refutes the possibility of deforestation because of the Moai by stating giving another explanation for the same. Professor explains that when the island was visited for the first time, there were numerous trees but it eventually decreased. Thus, decrease in the number of trees can be due to that visit. By scrunitizing the island, it is found that deforestation was because of rats. Moreover, rats were brought with the visitors for the food purpose so it can be inferred that deforestation was because of visitors.

Thirdly, passage states that there was a mass die off after the construction of Moai. Deforestation was the main reason because it declined the birds coming to Island which were the food for those people. Moreover, decline in the fish also affects the food. Thus, this reasoning is centred towards the deforestation. But professor refutes this possibility by stating numbers and states that from carbon dating it can be said that 2000 is the maximum number of people which can be possible on Island.

Thus, professor invalidates all the arguments given in the passage with proper justification.
