possible causes of the little ice age
The text discusses the little ice age, and provides three posibble causes of it. On the other hand, the professor goes against claimed causes and states why he is against them.
First, the text explains that a disruption in the ocean currents may happened as the result of a short warm period which may caused the little ice age. It states that the warm climate resulted in melting of glaciers and they could change the ocean currents. The professor refutes this claim and states that this hypothesis can only explain the ice age which happened in the Europe and North America. He also states that the little ice age happened in New Zealand and Africa as well which cannot be explained by the theory of ocean current's disruption.
Second, the text states that volcanic activities may be another reasons of the little ice age. It explains that these activities made dark clouds and a layer of dust and sulfur gas above the earth and as the result, the temperature of the earth decreased. The professor goes against this point and explains that if this claim was true people would see it. He adds that this happening can be easily visible, and some colorful sunsets or gray snows would be some signs of this issue. As the professor, there is no report on this point that people have seen any of these signs.
Third, as the text, a notable decrease in the population of humans would be the third possibility of the little ice age. It provides some explanation by stating that as the result of this decrease in population, the number of trees increase significantly. It also states that trees by absorbing carbon dioxide which make the climate warm could lead to the little ice age. The professor rejects this point and states that trees did not have enough time to increase in a hug number which may result to absorbing lots of greenhouse gases. He adds that people cut lots of trees to provide fields for cultivating crops, and because those forest which may caused the little ice age were not there for a long time, they cannot be a possible cause of the little ice age.
