Productivity and rewards
The reading and the lecture are both about the relation between rewards and productivity in companies. The author of the reading believes that when employees recieve more incentives, there is more production in a company. The lecturer challenges the statements made by the author. He is of the idea that the more rewards employees get, the less productivity the companies obtains.
First of all, the author states that incentives increase the behavior, motivation and productivity in workers. It is mentioned that some textbooks argue that when rewards are great, workers feel motivated about work and compensated about their tasks. This statement is challenges by the lecturer. He says that rewards have the opposite effect in production. He argues that more rewards are equal to less productivity.
Secondly, the writer contends that external gifts produce motivation to movement in people. The article notes that high-evaluated rewards related to achieveable goals, produce a great incentivation at work. However, the lecturer rebuts this by mentioning that workeers might fell forced to get a goal. Additionally, receiveing a reward which was not the one they expected, might bring a feeling of dislike and depression to workers. Because of the fact that, the more attractive the compensation is, the more disappointable it is for those workers who did not get it. Moreover, rewards tend to create an environment of individualism.
