Professor in the lecture questions the public or TV appearance of university professors lately. She rejects the idea in the passage, that these showings are benfitting to university, public or to the person himself/herself.
First, she states that TV appearances do not enhance the stature of a professor, not at least professionally. Instead, she says they are considered frivolous acts in the education society. Doing these, a professor is usually dropped from invitations to important conferances or they don't get funds for research activities.
Second, she mentions it's a waste of time as a professor. Showing up on TV, will require an individual to prepare for the presentation or in dressing up for the show. This time wasted, compromises the efforts, which should have been on University,'s research activities or academic programs. So, it doesn't helps the university as well.
Thirdly, argument in the passage for the public benefit, doesn't convince her. She says, public do not require any technical or detailed insights from a professor, instead people are just interested in the topic or some brief content. This level of analysis, a non-academic person with some effort ca present. Public don't need any heavy technical content to understand when they are watching TV after a whole day struggle.
