Essay topics:

Professors are normally found in university classrooms, offices, and libraries doing research and lecturing to their students. More and more, however, they also appear as guests on television new programs, giving expert commentary on the latest events in the world.

Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they oppose specific points made in the reading passage.

The speaker disagrees with describing a professor being on TV as a good thing. From the lecture, the speaker finds it hard to see how a TV publicity does the professor, their school or the public any good.
More significantly, the speaker shows how damaging TV appearances can be to a professor's professional reputation. The more a professor is seen on TV the more unserious they tend to appear to their fellow scholars, leading to less invitation of the professor to important academic events. This can result in less academic progress, lack of funds for research among others for the professor.
Also, TV appearances being bad for the professor puts their school in an unfavourable position as well. The professor's participation a TV program is tied to their school's public outlook as well. Hence, the public's unfavourable representation of the professor is transfer to the school too. A situations like this harms the school's opportunities to get donation from the public.
Ultimately, the speaker sees a professor on TV as benefit no one other than the TV station who uses the privilege to put an academic title on their show while denying the public of the beneficial academic content.
