Reading: Appearence of Professor on Television is beneficial to Professors, university and public

Listening: Opposing view

The author of the article points out that the appearance of professors on television has great benefit for all - professor, university as well as to the public. However, the speaker of the lecture questions the view of benefit and points out some aspects of harmful effects about the appearance on Television.

The orator starts with the disadvantages that the professors have to face with the appearance on Television mainly based on the professionalism, seriousness character as a scholar and ignorance by intellectual community considering just as an entertainer. Further, She points out the waste of time the professor would have to face with the appearance in the television. S/He had to travel and reherse all those scripts as well as make ups. All these thing than a mere benefit are a distraction for the professor from his specific research.

After questioning the benefits to the professors, the orator questions the advantages to the university. Although, the author explains the increase in publicity and prospective students, if the above explained fact about the professor by speaker is true. Then, rather than increasing goodwill of the university it will decrease it. Along with the reputition, the funds for research and the ranking of the University will also go down. So, the direct relation of the professors with the University will surely hamper both of them if reputition of any one of them get hampered.

At last, the lecturer questions, what really will the public get? She further states the way that the public would like to hear from the professors. Most of the audience would prefer something entertaining and movie related subject to be discussed rather than scientific discoveries and other boring talks. So, the appearence of professors on Television and talking about his research will not have any audiences and its all just waste of time.

Thus, the speaker has pointed out some strong counterargument regarding the benefit for the professor, university and public with the professors dicussing in Television.
