First, considering the article the humpback whales have high degree of cognitive ability with a complex brain. This suggests that whales can use night sky stars for orientation in proper ways. In contrast, the professor contradicts the idea and says that actually intelligence has no related to the navigation ability and some birds such as ducks can find their way without high intelligence.
Second, the reading passage claims that animals can maintain movement in the right direction with external sign and force. So whales can not rely on land features and they rely on stars at night. Admittedly, the professor validates the information presented in the reading and makes the point that according to new research whales and most of animals rely on Earth's magnetic field with their bio-magnet in their body not any external clues.
Third, the writer puts forward the idea that sop-hopping is a function by whales for looking at stars. In the same way, the speaker justifies the idea and adds that some animals such as sharks doing this function and they never migrate. Also, whales do spy-hopping during the days too.
To sum up, both the speaker and writer hold conflicting views about whales' navigation by stars.
