Secondly, the article posits that because of this change more people will get jobs to cover up the work left by the employees. However, the lecturer is against this idea and says that the company will have high expectations from the new employees to do the job similarly as it is being done by the employee who left it.
The article states that working four days a week instead of 5 days have several benefits for the company, country and as well as the employees. The author provides three reasons of support for his claim. However, the lecturer refutes all of the claims and says that this change have more detrimental effects than the benefits.
Firstly, the article states that the company will be highly benefited from this change as the workers would get sufficient rest if they work only four days a week, thus decreasing the likelihood of making errors while working which can be very much costly for the company. However, the lecturer refutes this claim and states that the company will be in loss if this change is to take place. He says that, the company will have to hire new employees to compensate the remaining work due to which more money will be spent on them as the company will have to provide them salary as well other costs associated with them such as medical costs, the costs for the new computers, etc. Moreover, more space of the office will be used because of the addition of the new employees.
Secondly, the author states that the country will also benefit from this change. The article states that since new employees will be hired by the companies to complete the work, more of the people of the country will get chance to work, thus decreasing the unemployment from the country. However, the lecturer says that this claim does not hold water and says that the company will have the expectations from the new employees to complete the work as it is done by others. This profound expectations on the new employees can have some detrimental effects as well because the people might not apply for those jobs.
Finally, the article posits that this change will help the individuals in their personal life as well. The article says that the employees will now get sufficient time to spend with their family such that it will have positive impact on their mentality and self-esteem. However, the professor refutes this claim and says that the company will give more priority and preference to the employees who works five days a week such that the ones working fewer days than them will always feel insecure. Moreover, if there is any downturn in the company such that the company has to cut off some of its employees, then the one working the fewer hours will be jettisoned at first.
