solar system
The main subject of the reading passage and lecture are about the feasibility of establishing colonies of human on the asteroids instead of other planets like Mars. The passage prepares claims which are not in favor of the lecturer in the listening.
First, the author of the lecture states that asteroids are smaller celestial in comparison with the planets, hence, the less the mass, the less the gravity of the asteroid and this feature makes it easier to land on the surface with fewer impact. In contrast, the lecturer opposes this idea and states lower gravity leads to risks of health problems, like decreasing muscle mass and bone density.
Second, the reading asserts that asteroids are a great source of gold and other valuable metals, which encourage the companies to investigate these projects that make them bring these materials from there and trade on them. But the professor encounters this belief and argues that to transfer large quantities of gold affords the high cost, and besides releasing a high amount of gold to the market makes the price of it down and hurts the indicators of the stocks.
Finally, the passage counter that the distance between the earth and the asteroids is less than other planets like Mars, which makes it easier to get and get back to the Earth. In opposite, the listening asserts that this distance is much further in some parts of the orbit, even in comparison with Marc's distance, which makes it harder to transfer things between the Earth and the asteroid.
