Essay topics:

Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they challenge specific points made in the reading passage.

The reading passage and the lecturer discus whether starting a franchise business is profitable. The author states that it has many advantages in saving money and security. The lecturer disagrees with each point made in the lecturer and suggests that independent companies are far better in the aspects mentioned above.

In the passage it is argues that finding reliable suppliers of the goods for the beginner businessmen is a problem but franchises under big companies already have suppliers and they can not be scammed this way. The lecturer undermines this fact by mentioning the price of the brands’ suppliers which is higher than the one on the market.

The author claims that franchises are able to save money on advertising as big companies provide them a name. Nevertheless, the professor disproves this theory and says that franchise owner must pay up to 6 per cent in order to be promoted. It is worth mentioning that big companies advertise only their product and leave the franchise less chance of becoming successful than if they were independent.

Finally, the article discuss the reliable security of franchises and its prospects and lower chances to fail because of the proven business model. In the lecture, the speaker contends that such a plan might not be risky but people who buys companies from previous owner have more success.
