Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they challenge the specific points mentioned in the reading passage.
The lecture and the reading are both about whether Peary's claim on reaching the North Pole is true. The author of the reading feels that there is at least three evidence support the claim made by Peary. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article. She says that there is no solid evidence to prove the claim.
First of all, the author states that a third party committee concludes Peary did reach the North after an investigation. The lecturer rebuts the argument. She says that the committee is not objective, because some members of the committee are Peary's friends, and they provided money for Peary to explore. Besides, they don't examine carefully, so the conclusion can not be trusted.
Secondly, the author thinks that a British explorer named Tom Avery tried to make the same trek, and proved 37 days is enough for Peary to reach the terminal. But the lecturer believes that Tom carried less weight on his travel, and he transports the food by air. Moreover, the weather condition is rather good which is really different from Peary's situation.
Finally, the author claims that a photo of Peary is reliable evidence. It argues the shadow and the position of the sun in the photo can prove that Peary reached the North Pole. This point is challenged by the lecturer. She thinks that the photo fussy and blurred. As a result, the photo can not be used to calculate a precise result.
