summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on specific points made in the reading passage.
What the reading passage and the lecture both debate on is whether colonizing asteroids is the best option compared to other objects in space such as our Moon and neighboring planet Mars. While the passage gives three main reasons to prove that asteroids are the reasonable option for colonization, the lecture, however, challenges the points made in the passage.
Firstly, the lecture points out that with the lower gravity humans tend to face to physical problems on asteroids, whereas the passage lists several benefits of low gravity on asteroids such as safer landing, larger capacity for the crafts, less requirement on fuels. The lecture mentions that it is scientifically proven that humans' muscle mass and bones' density would decrease in a lower gravity environment in asteroids, and it is certainly unreasonable for humans to colonize this environment and settle for long period of time.
Secondly, the lecture states that supporting mining valuable minerals and loading the raw metals back to Earth would cost a lot which will not make the mining profitable at all, while the passage mentions that the process of mining valuable metals funded by sponsors might make lots of profits. Also the lecture demonstrates that market price would decrease and do not make great profits if the supply of minerals increased.
Finally, the lecture states that even if asteroids comes nearer from the Earth than Moon or Mars from the Earth at one point as the passage mentions, thir orbiting paths are unusual and very likely to move far away from the Earth. Therefore it might be easy for colonists to land on the asteroids, but might be very difficult and unpractical for them to take off from the asteroids to return to the Earth.
